Tree-Ring Oxygen Isotope Variations in Subalpine Firs from the Western Himalaya Capture Spring Season Temperature Signals

چکیده
We analyzed the tree-rings ?18O of Abies spectabilis (fir) growing at subalpine treeline ecotone in Magguchatti valley. The valley is located Indian summer monsoon (ISM) dominated region western Himalaya and also receives snow precipitation derived by westerly disturbances (WDs) during winter months. 60 year developed (1960–2019 CE) tree-ring chronology revealed a strong positive correlation with temperature late spring months (February to April). Strong negative correlations are apparent for snowcover, soilmoisture, relative humidity same season. Our findings partly contrast significant results drought indices recorded from other monsoon-dominated regions Himalayas. spatial analyses sea surface temperatures (SSTs) climate parameters showed subdued signals tropical Pacific site, but shift more moisture influx Arabian Sea last two decades. Moreover, North Atlantic Oscillation further justifies strongly captured snowcover weak effect fir trees. A rising trend latter half 20th century elevation taken as important factors controlling source zones.

Modern and ancient wood is a valuable terrestrial record of carbon ultimately derived from the atmosphere and oxygen inherited from local meteoric water. Many modern and fossil wood specimens display rings sufficiently thick for intra-annual sampling, and analytical techniques are rapidly improving to allow for precise carbon and oxygen isotope measurements on very small samples, yielding unpre...

Identifying how physiological responses are structured across environmental gradients is critical to understanding in what manner ecological factors determine tree performance. Here, we investigated the spatiotemporal patterns of signal strength of carbon isotope discrimination (Δ(13)C) and oxygen isotope composition (δ(18)O) for three deciduous oaks (Quercus faginea (Lam.), Q. humilis Mill. an...

Relatively large (P0.2&) O anomalies in the geologic record have been used to recognize atmospheric processes such as photochemical reactions and to trace changes in the partial pressures of O2 and CO2 in Earth’s atmosphere through time. However, recent oxygen isotope measurements of terrestrial rocks, minerals and waters also reveal common, smaller (but statistically significant) deviations fr...
متن کاملVariations in Environmental Signals in Tree-Ring Indices in Trees with Different Growth Potential.
We analysed two groups of Quercus robur trees, growing at nearby plots with different micro-location condition (W-wet and D-dry) in the floodplain Krakovo forest, Slovenia. In the study we compared the growth response of two different tree groups to environmental variables, the potential signal stored in earlywood (EW) structure and the potential difference of the information stored in carbon i...
